Sailing in the Kvarner bay in Croatia

The island of Cres is the northernmost island in Kvarner and can be reached either by ferry from Brestova, or you can go via Krk to Valbiska and then by ferry to Cres. Both are easily doable. There are plenty of beaches and beautiful bays on Cres, but more in the southern or western part of the island. It is also special that there is a huge freshwater lake on the island with about 5 square kilometers. The lake Vrana is situated above sea level, whereas the bottom is about 70m below sea level. Cres and Mali Losinj are connected by a bridge, which is basically passable. Only in the morning around 10:00 and in the evening around 17:00 the bridge is opened in the place Osor for passing yachts. 

Particularly worth seeing are the villages of Cres, Osor, Lubenice and Valun. By the way, the Austrian-German series "Towards the Sun" was filmed in Valun. Those who want to explore the beautiful bays on the west side will find countless anchoring possibilities and among others a bay called "Blue Cave". Access is free at any time and is something very special. You swim into the cave and inside the water and the cave wall glows in a turquoise blue. If you can make it in time, you should definitely stop in Osor and spend a night at the buoy. The restaurant "Bonifacic" is excellent and idyllically located in a rock garden.

Marina Losinj has great sailing yachts and you can always rely on our partner base. Most popular are the sailing yachts from Dufour, Bavaria and Elan. Easy to reach and flexible in every direction, the yacht charter in Kvarner Bay can begin. If you want to start from Losinj directly into Kvarner, you have to pass through a narrow passage, which can be quite challenging in bora. Also, be sure to watch your speed, as the police do speed checks there from time to time. If you sail west out of the marina you can either sail to Istria, or to the offshore islands, such as Susak, Unije. On Susak there is a sandy beach, which is a highlight especially for our little crew members. The sea is very shallow and in high summer the water temperature in the beach area can be 5-10 degrees higher than on the open sea. Unije is very popular among sailors. the so-called five-finger bay in the eastern part is well protected, the water is crystal clear and beautifully clean.

Yacht charter Kvarner 

If you still have time, you should definitely sail to the islands of Olib and Silba. Silba is a car free island and you can walk over the small hill from east to west and the other way around. It is also nice to stop for a swim on the mini island Kurjak. The seabed is sand and accordingly the water is turquoise like in the Caribbean. Guided diving in the Kvarner Bay is also recommended. Diving centres can be found on each island like Krk, Rab and Mali Losinj.

Often sailors starts to sail from Kvarner to the Kornati islands - along the island of Dugi Otok. That are round about 2 days in one direction. More marinas may be found on neighboring islands such as Cres, Pag, and Rab. We also have charter bases here and offer fantastic chances to our charter visitors - with or wothout a skipper. There are various wrecks in this region, and if you have a skipper, he will know where to go. Please take care, that in Croatia you need a boat license and a short range certificate!
