The Maldives are located in the Indian Ocean southwest of Sri Lanka. The island chain has more than 1000 islands. Only about 200 of them are actually inhabited. Renting a boat, catamaran or yacht gives you the opportunity to explore uninhabited atolls as well. Most of the islands are flat and characterized by tall palm trees as well as white beaches. The temperatures are tropical. Daytime temperatures around 30° are the rule. Nights are warm and sailing with a charter yacht is possible all year round. However, the best months are in the dry season. It extends from January to the end of March.

The colorful coral reefs of the Maldives are world famous. The Baa Atoll has a particularly fascinating wealth of species. Therefore, it was declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 2011. Many colorful fish species and also larger aquatic animals such as rays or whale sharks can be spotted here.
The inhabitants of the Maldives are very hospitable and enchant with their exotic charm. Many small markets with interesting carvings and typical local delicacies provide exciting insights into the island culture. Local restaurants are especially recommended. They can be found off the tourist roads and offer traditional specialties. Maldivian cuisine uses fruity ingredients such as mangoes, coconuts or papaya. Fish and delicate seafood round out almost every dish.
Especially worthwhile is a trip by rental boat to Malé. Malé is the capital of the Maldives and has an interesting national museum. It deals with the history and culture of the Maldivian islands. However, the city has more to offer: Numerous stores and a beautiful promenade invite you to stroll.
